Air Gap Filler

Expanding foam tape, such as the Cool Shield AirStrip, is a primary solution for filling gaps in data center cooling systems to prevent bypass airflow and hot air recirculation. 

These pre-compressed polyurethane foam strips expand to seal openings ranging from ¼” to 1½” in locations like under server cabinets, above containment panels, and around rack rails. 

Key features and applications for these gap fillers include:

• Efficiency Gains: Filling gaps significantly improves cooling efficiency by stopping the mixing of supply and exhaust air, which increases usable cooling unit capacity. 
• Material Properties: The foam is fire retardant, non-particulating, and resistant to temperatures between -40°F and 194°F, ensuring safety and durability in data center environments. 
• Installation: Strips feature a strong adhesive backing for quick application; they are simply peeled, adhered to one edge of the gap, and allowed to expand to fill the space completely. 
• Alternative Seals: Other solutions include magnetically fastened cabinet floor skirts and AisleLok® Acrycell Sealing Tape for sealing perimeter openings and floor gaps. 

While thermal gap fillers (silicone pads or gels) are also available, they are primarily designed for electronic component heat dissipation rather than sealing large structural air leaks in aisle containment systems.
